Characteristics

Mount Vesuvius is located in Naples, Italy. It is 1,281 meters high, towering over the surrounding areas. Before the 79AD eruptions, there was no name for volcanos. It’s name has derived from the Roman God of fire, Vulcan.

Today, it is one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world because 3 million people live near it. More people live near Mount Vesuvius than any other volcano in the world.

History

It is the only volcano on the mainland of Europe that erupted in the last 100 years. It is famous for an eruption that happened 79 AD eruption that lasted more than 24 hours. It is actually formed from two volcanos. Mount Vesuvius is a volcano in southern Italy. We know so much about the destruction of Pompeii thanks to the letters written by a man called Pliny witness the eruption Mount Vesuvius.
