Math in real life

In the Holidays I went to the shops for my mum.

My mum told me that she wanted a fizzy drink and for me to get a drink and some sweets.

My mum’s drink cost £1 and my drink cost 60p so I had to work out how much I could spend. I had a ten pound note so I needed to check I would get the right change.

The shopping cost £1.60 so I worked out I would need £8.40 change.

That’s maths in real life!

How we used maths in the holiday!

Mary’s shopping

I went shopping at Tesco with my dad, I had to use my money knowledge because every time my dad put something in the trolley, I looked at the price and added it all up. When we got to the till I was a few pounds off, but I still did very well to do all that adding as we bought a lot if things!

How to use maths in real life at the shop

It was half term last week and even though I wasn’t at school, I still used my Maths skills! I went to the shop to get my dad and me some drinks because we were tidying at the weekend with my dad. It cost 75p each and I got crisps and they cost £1.00 each so it cost me a total of £2.50. I had £3.50 on me so I knew I had enough money.

After more tidying my dad wanted more drinks so we went back to the shops. My dad got a 65p drink and £1.00 crisps and I got a £1.00 drink and a £1.00 crisps then went back home and had a sit down. In total for the whole day I spent 75p+75p+£1.00+65p+£1.00+£1.00+£1.00=£6.15

How to use maths in real life 😀

I use maths skills a lot at home.

When I played outside I needed to find out what time it was so I wasn’t late for dinner. This meant I had to be able to tell the time.

Me and my friend went to Lidl and my friend had to find out how much money we could spend and how much money we had. When I went to get my breakfast I needed to know what I was getting so I needed to find out how much money I have. This meant I had to be able to add and subtract to use money in real life.

When me and my mom went to the shop we saw a pizza that was half price so we had to pay half as much as we used to. This is the same as 50% off! a good price. When me, my friend and my family bought a pizza and we had to decide who eats what so we all ate one quarter of the pizza each. This meant I used my fraction skills in real life.

When I went to a magic show I needed to know how much 5 seats would cost. When me and my grandma went to the circus and we wanted to buy 2 boxes of cotton candy, we needed to find out how much it costs to check we had enough money.

I use maths a lot in real life!
