Katharine Parr
Family Life.
Henry the VIII passed away 28th January 1547. Katharine Parr was born in 1512 and she was twice widowed and childless. She was aged 30 when she married King Henry VIII and they were married on 12th July 1543 in Hampton Court Palace. Katharine Parr promptly married Thomas Seymour, brother of Jane Seymour, as soon as Henry died. Katharine had a baby girl on the 30th August 1548 but soon became ill and passed away 6 days later, aged 35. Katharine first marriage was to Edward Borough, the son of Thomas, third Baron Borough of Gainsborough in 1529 when she was only 17 years old.
What her life was like.
She proved to be a kind wife who looked after Henry in his sickness, and a good stepmother to the king’s three children, Mary, Elizabeth and Edward. It wasn’t easy for her with Henry! Her interest in Protestantism made her enemies in court, enemies who tried to turn the King against her and to have her arrested.
