Martin Luther believed that the Catholic Church was not teaching people the right things. Luther could read Latin ,Greek and Hebrew. Martin Luther began the reformation movement in 1517. England started as a Catholic country and ended up being a Protestant one under the Tudors. The Bible was only written in Latin. When Henry VIII came to the throne, he was a devout Catholic and defended the church against Protestants. Henry VIII did not agree with their views.

People could pay for a Priest for an indulgence so that they would spend less time in purgatory.The Pope was a corrupt and greedy man. People needed a priest to help them find god.
