The Circulatory System – Big write. Monday 13th January 2020

The circulatory system is one of the three main systems that keep your body moving by sending blood all around our muscles and vital organs so they can move- the blood drops off  vital nutrients and plasma. Our Hearts are roughly the size of a clenched fist slightly to the left of our sternum ,which is the thick bone in the middle of your chest, and infront of our lungs. It’s able to pump blood  around your body  (on average) 115000 times a day, meaning it pumps blood around your vital organs and muscles 2.5 billion times a life time. Meaning the heart is one of the most active muscles in our body. In the rest of this text, I will talk about the different stages of the circulatory system.

First, the de-oxygenated blood (blood cells without oxygen) enters the right heart chamber, through the right atrium. Next through the Tricuspid valve, into the right ventricle, out of another valve and pumped out of the right heart chamber at a fraction of how fast blood is pumped out of the left heart chamber, into the lungs.

After leaving the right heart chamber, and entering the lungs, that’s when you inhale, or breathe in, your lungs fill with air, then the lungs absorbs the oxygen that was breathed in. Then before the blood cells pick up the oxygen, the blood cells first deposit CO2 (carbon dioxide) in the lungs so you then exhale or breathe out the carbon dioxide. Then your blood cells pick up the much needed oxygen and circle back into the heart, as oxygenated blood through arteries, into the left heart chamber.

After leaving the lungs through arteries, it enters the left heart chamber through the pulmonary valve into the left atrium. Then through the metric valve into the left ventricle out of the heart. This all happens within a blink of an eye, so this all happens in under a second, or even a millisecond.

Traveling through arteries, the oxygenated blood drops off  major nutrients at different muscles and organs so they would work. From your leg muscles to your brain, your blood powers it with nutrients. Then after your blood cells drop off the oxygen, it circles back through veins, carrying CO2 as a by-product from the bloods’ previous circulation and restarting the cycle of the circulatory system. Still, in under the blink of an eye, barely moving in time at all.

  1. This is very interesting. The circuLatory system is really a miracle isn’t it? All working so fast and we’re not aware of it.
