Who:Alexander was born in Edinburgh in 1847. His mother was deaf but she liked him playing the piano for her. Alexander wondered what his mother heard.

How:Alexander invented a phone with a long wire. He rented a place were it had two rooms next to each other to try the phone. Alexander got acid on his leg and called his friend to help and the phone worked. When his friend got there Alexander was so happy he nearly forgot about the burning acid on his leg.

Why: Alexander started teaching deaf people how to talk after his dad did. Alexander and his brother were challenged to make a talking machine or find one and they actually made one.
