POLYGONS – Maths bee special

December 17th, 2017

This is a maths bee special because since I am going to the maths bee so I think I should share my learning. I hope you wish me luck!

POLYGONS

First if you are going to learn about polygons you need to know what it means.

Polygon in Greek means many angles. ‘Poly’ is many and ‘gon’ means angles. So Ia polygon is a shape with many angles.

All polygons follow these rules :

  • A closed shape
  • 2 dimensional (2D)
  • Strait sides

Different polygons have different names. If you want to impress someone you can learn all these names which are the following below.

  • 3 sides triangle
  • 4 sides quadriatal
  • 5 sides pentagon
  • 6 sides hexagon
  • 7 sides heptagon
  • 8 sides octagon
  • 9 sides nonagon
  • 10 sides decagon
  • 11 sides undecagon
  • 12 sides dodecagon

If all sides of a polygon are equal and the angles are also equal the polygon is called a regular polygon. If it is not a regular it is a irregular.

What an excellent explanation. Do you know the difference between a polygon and a polyhedron?
